Women’s Economic Imperative (WEI) is a global, US-registered, non-profit that was founded in 2017. Its mission is to amplify, leverage, and catalyze the transformative work of empowering women as economic actors globally by taking concrete action, engaging in strategic partnerships, and mobilizing resources for transformative impact.
o Women and girls comprise half of the world’s population and constitute a vital and integral social, political, and economic force. Yet women and girls are systematically disadvantaged and discounted in the global economy.
o Sustainable Development Goal 5 targets women’s economic empowerment as a global goal that cuts across all of the 2030 SDGs. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic many of the gains on women’s economic activity have been lost. The World Bank estimates that 150 million people have now slipped below the poverty line and we know that women and girls are disproportionately impacted. We must redouble our efforts on achieving the SDGs for the benefit of all members of the human family – women, men, girls and boys. This is not just a woman’s issue, it ultimately affects all of us.
o Women’s economic empowerment is not just a moral imperative, it is an economic no-brainer.
o WEI is committed to taking concrete actions and advocating for meaningful change on the ground. Join WEI and the global community in taking action! All hands on deck!
